Gotta Love Freeroll Games.

After I posted yesterdays results and thoughts I continued to play some free roll games on Poker Stars.  It was a good thing since if I was playing for real money, I probably would be broke today.  One of them I ended up finishing fourth out of 36 players.  That game ended badly for me.  I have continued my streak of bad pocket cards.  I had A 7 one time and ended up losing to three of a kind.  My favorite one was when I had pocket 9s and lost due to a pair of tens.  I was irritated by this and had to stop playing for the night.  Some of the hands that I had or saw made me really think about Poker Stars being rigged.

One thing I have noticed over the last few months of playing on this site is that during play if you have the chip lead, you need to be very careful with which hands you play and how you bet.  For example last night I was the chip leader at the table.  I had A 8 off suit.  A decent set of cards to play with, so I decided to call.  The flop gave me a pair of 8s, which was the higher card from the flop.  So I think I am in good shape.  Another player goes all in with $380 and I call.  So does another player.  The next card was a K and I think I could bluff this player by going all in and cause them to fold.  But no, this player calls all in too.  So the cards flip over and I see this player has K Q off suit.  Oh, crap is my thought at this point but then I think "there is one more card, if I get an A or another 8 I could still win this hand and stay in.  Unfortunately the poker gods were not helping me out and the river card was a Q.  Unbelievable, I think, to go from the most chips to being out of the game over this guys luck.  This was how one tournament ended for me.

Another tournament, I was doing very good.  I was the chip lead with over $7,000 in chips.  Now you are probably thinking that I made it to the final table.  Well, this one started with 9,000 players.  I started out cold but then really picked up some steam by winning a few pots that had other players all in.  Sadly, the poker gods were not going to make this my night.  I have A 2 to start the hand.  A couple players go all in with about $1,500.  I figure, what the hell, I have an Ace why not.  So I call and see that one of the other players has a Q 8.  I think, no problem.  I got these guys.  No, I was dead wrong.  After the flop, I have a pair of deuces and no one else has anything but a high card.  So I think why not, all-in in an attempt to scare out the other chip leader.  Doesn't happen, this player calls me and has a little more then me.  I believe it was about $20 more then what I had.  So the turn card shows up and is a K, which does not help any one.  Then, thinking I won with the only pair, the river card comes up and is Q.  "Oh crap" are the only thought in my head right now.  I just lost due to this player getting lucky and having the winning card show up.

Hands like these two give me the thought that this whole thing could be rigged.  I also start to think about the past hands and these VIP points you get for playing certain types of tables and tournaments.  Could there me a connection between the two?  By the end of last year I was getting my points up pretty high.  I was about 350 points away from the next level.  I noticed I really started to win some hands.  I even won first place in a tournament with only 45 players.  I won that one with the river card being something that I needed.  This makes me wonder if there is any truth to my crazy thought about these points effecting where you place.

What a disappointing day I had with these tournaments.  Right now my account is down to $0.16.  I will be playing some $0.02 tournaments today.  It is kind of sad to be down to almost nothing right now.  Last month I won about $7 then lost $4 and then I was up to $8 and some change.  Now, in this new year I have $0.16 and my points started over at zero.  Stay tuned to see what happens today.

As a side note, I know that in the description I am going to be talking about poker, which I have been, and cigars, which I have not.  Just to clarify why I have not said anything about cigars.  I have not smoked any cigars in the last 24 hours.  I will try to smoke one today but we shall see.
